Before a single slide gets made I dig into who the learner actually is. What are they struggling with in their own words? What does success look and feel like for them specifically? I use welcome forms, informal interviews, and direct conversation to gather real empathy data, not assumptions. This is Stanford d.school's Empathise stage applied to every project I take on. The learner's lived experience is the brief.
